“No Exit” , 24” x 20”, Oil on Canvas, 2013
My passion is to preserve the traditions of the Old Masters. Thus my style is representational, and most often figurative. I work in water-miscible oils due to their lower toxicity and to avoid the need for solvents, while my “Life Drawing” work is charcoal on paper.
The subjects of many of my portraits are studio models. Some of my portraits are of co-workers (e.g. Dorie Bradley, Earle Chaddock) or relatives (e.g. Anna O. Salo, Ellen, The Salo Sisters). Those are done from (sometimes very old!) photographs.
I am obsessed by the human face and its many expressions, which will continue to occupy me for the remainder of my life.
